Leader Is More Than A Title

Effective leadership is a luminescent quality greatly aspired, but rarely acquired.
Leadership is being a headlight; not a taillight. At the core of effective leadership
is the tacit awareness of being focused on doing the right thing; as opposed to
doing things right.  Leadership is constructive as opposed to destructive. It is the realization that issues are resolved through processes fraught with the
unexpected.

A recent and heralded development in the optometric profession might be considered useful guidance toward efforts to expand scope of practice issues in
organized Opticianry. In quick summary, a lawsuit was brought against the ABO
(American Board of Optometry) regarding the ABO’s staunch advocacy of board
certification exams for optometrists.

Organized Opticianry: Senate Bill 445 Abruptly Pulled!

The world of legislative affairs is constantly producing new challenges and perils
at either - or both - the national and state levels. As a result, this is why organized
opticianry at all levels can never afford a laissez-faire attitude to the political
world around us.

As an example during the current legislative session in Georgia, the Secretary of State introduced a bill to establish a 7 member consumer (only) super board that would oversee the state’s 43 licensing boards, and relegate the existing boards to advisory status. As many would attest from personal experience, most of us recognize ironing boards as being more useful than most advisory boards!
